Petrographical and microfacies study of Sinjar formation in Bazyan anticline, Sulaimaniyah region (Northern Iraq)

Purpose. The work studies Sinjar formation (upper Paleocene lower Eocene) within the Bazyan anticline in Sulaimaniyah region (northeastern Iraq). facies analysis is based on petrographic study of limestone deposits and essential to identify their nature. sediments that formed have a high content skeletal granules which include small amount red algae residues unicellular organisms-foraminifera. Methodology. method included two main aspects: field laboratory work. first part description rocky excavation modeling 10 rocks samples from it section. As for second aspect, preparation slides Formation followed by facial these deposits. Findings. Micro showed sequences consist three facies. wacky bears benthic foraminifera. compact foraminifera while fossils. Originality. Wacky bearing foraminifera, compacted algae, were selected studied. Thus, according analysis, was deposited open shelf before deposit. Practical value. Samples obtained further production order this anticline, allowed showing its lithostratigraphic column.
